This is a listing of about 60 of the major journal and information databases available at Milne Library. There are other databases available particularly through FirstSearch. Library Resources Listed By Subject has additional databases listed. Academic Search Premier is often a good place to begin your search. There also may be print sources that may be useful for your research. Please ask a Reference Librarian if you can't find what you need. Please read the Access and Use Restrictions.

Academic Search Premier
Provides full text for nearly 4,650 journals (including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed publications) in nearly every area of academic study.
AGRICOLA
Available through FirstSearch. From the National Agricultural Library. Indexes about 5000 journals. Subjects covered include food and human nutrition, environmental science, agriculture. Five simultaneous users.
America History and Life (EBSCO interface)
Bibliographic reference guide to the history of the United States and Canada from prehistory to the present. Also available in print.
Annual Bulletin of Historical Literature
Provides a selective critical analysis of new historical books, journals and journal articles. Topics covered include Ancient History, Middle Ages, Sixteenth through Twentieth Centuries, Africa, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, & the Pacific Islands.
American Chemical Society Web Edition

From Los Alamos National Lab and Cornell University. Searchable. Includes physics, mathematics and computer science preprint literature. Full text is available is various formats. Covers 1991 to the present.
Biography and Genealogy Master Index
Gives citations to sources of biographical information for contemporary and historical figures around the world.
BioMed Central | Advanced Search
Provides full-text to about 130 journals in biology and medicine. This database is openly accessible, but individual (free) registration is required.
BioOne
Provides access to the full-text of about 50 bioscience journals. Citations are free to view. Full-text is available at Hartwick College.
Business and Company Resource Center
A comprehensive business resource which provides access to periodical and newspaper articles, information about domestic and international companies, investment reports, brands, industry and company rankings, corporate histories. Coverage includes public and private companies. A good source for company histories and chronologies.
Business Source Premier
Provides full-text for more than 2500 serials (about 1100 are peer-reviewed). Also includes the full text of over 350 scholarly journals with coverage back to 1922 as well as company profiles on about 10,000 of the world's largest companies. Business Searching Interface.
CINAHL Plus with Full Text
Indexing for over 560 journals in the fields of nursing and allied health sciences with coverage back to 1937. Some full text articles are included.
College Source
A collection of the full text of catalogs from two-year, four-year, graduate, and professional schools in the U.S.
Communication and Mass Media Complete
Covers all aspects of communication and mass media. Includes some full text articles.
Contemporary Authors
Guide to current writers in fiction, general nonfiction, poetry, drama, and other fields. Provides complete biographical and bibliographical references.
CQ Politics in America
Information on the 106th, 107th , 108th, 109th, and 110th Congress including congressional profiles, contact info, district data, key votes. Print version is in Reference JK1010.P64. One simultaneous user.

Disclosure Reports in Lexis-Nexis
Available through LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe under Company Financial Reports. Business and financial information extracted from annual and periodic reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for over 10,000 publicly-owned companies.

OCLC catalog of online electronic books available worldwide. The WorldCat of electronic books.

Provides access to MasterFILE Premier, TOPICSearch, and several databases of interest to school children.
Education Multi-Database Search (EBSCO)
This will search several databases helpful to Education majors at once using the EBSCO interface. Databases include Academic Search Premier, Education Research Complete, ERIC, Professional Development Collection, PsycINFO and SocINDEX.
Education Research Complete
Large database that provides coverage of all aspects of education, including curriculum instruction, administration, policy, funding, and related social issues. Offers some full text.

Gale's Literary Index
Master index to 40 Gale literary publications including Contemporary Authors, Dictionary of Literary Biography, Literature Resource Center. Updated twice/year.
Gale Virtual Reference Library
A collection of full text electronic reference books covering many subject areas. Can be searched by keyword, source, subject, image caption, full text, and audience. Individual books can be combined for cross-title searching.
GenderWatch
A full text database of journals, newsletters and research reports on women. Two simultaneous users.
General Science Collection
Full text coverage of 60 full text popular science publications from 1992 to the present.
HarpWeek
HarpWeek is the full text, full-image electronic version of Harpers Weekly. Coverage is from 1857-1865. (This database is funded by SUNYConnect)

This full text periodical database is in Spanish and is best searched in Spanish as well. Topics covered include business, health, technology, culture and other general subjects.
InfoTrac Custom Newspapers
This full text newspaper database includes the New York Newspapers including the last year of the New York Times and over fifty national and international newspapers.
International Bibliography of Theatre & Dance
Covers aspects of theatre and performance in 126 countrys from more than 200 periodicals and books.
International Political Science Abstracts
Covers almost 900 journals from 1989-present in the area of political science. Only contains citations.
Iter: Gateway to the Middle Ages and Renaissance
"Iter, meaning a journey or a path in Latin, is a not-for-profit research project with partners in Toronto (the headquarters), New York City, and Tempe. Iter was created for the advancement of learning in the study and teaching of the Middle Ages and Renaissance (400-1700) through the development of online resources."
JAMA: Journal of the American Medical Association
Provides access to the full text of the Journal of the American Medical Association. The objective is "to promote the science and art of medicine and the betterment of the public health". The journal is available only within the library. Users will need to consult a librarian in order to access this journal.
JSTOR archive
Provides access to the full text of over 300 scholarly journals across many subject areas. The objective of JSTOR is to provide all issues back to Volume 1, Issue 1 for all journals. (Due to copyright restrictions, the most recent 3-5 years are unavailable.)
Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology
Provides access to over 1000 articles on chemical substances including their properties, manufacturing, and uses.
LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe
Contains full text general news and reference information, as well as legislative, legal, business, financial, and health sources. Includes the full text of major newspapers including the New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, Le Monde. Updated daily.
Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts
Index to articles in about 600 journals. Some full-text articles are available. Covers from the mid-1960's to the present.
Literature Resource Center
Provides access to biographies, bibliographies and critical analysis of authors from every age and literary discipline.
LitFinder
Provides access to about 125,000 full text poems, 850,000 poem citations, 5,000 full text short stories, 3,000 full text essays, 2,000 full text speeches, and 1,000 full text plays.
MasterFile Premier
Provides full text for over 1700 general reference publications from many disciplines.
Military and Government Collection
Current news pertaining to all branches. Provides full-text for about 300 journals.
MLA Directory of Periodicals
Offers detailed information on over 7,100 journals, with 4,400 currently indexed in the International Bibliography. The detailed entries include editorial contact information, as well as frequency, circulation, subscription prices and submission guidelines.
MLA International Bibliography
Index to scholarly research in literature, linguistics, and folklore. Indexes material published since the 1920's including 4400 journals, books, proceedings, and bibliographies
Nation, The (Digital Archive)
Full text/full image version of The Nation magazine, "a dissenting, independent, trouble-making, idea-launching journal of critical opinion", from 1865 to the present. Searchable by author, keyword, title, date range. Includes articles, book reviews, film reviews, poems, cartoons, and illustrations.
National Newspapers
Includes The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post. LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe is another good source for newspapers.
NCJRS Abstracts Database
National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts Database. Provides summaries of more than 190,000 criminal justice publications. About 7000 full text publications are available through the NCJRS Virtual Library.
New York Times Archive, 1851-2004
The New York Times archive provides full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. It is possible to limit by article type including: classified ad, display ad, editorial cartoon, letter, comic, editorial article, review, stock quote, weather, legal notice, and real estate transaction.
Newsbank
Local and regional news. For national and international coverage, Lexis-Nexis is more comprehensive.
NY Public Library Databases
These databases may be accessed by obtaining a New York Public Library card, which is a possiblity for any New York State resident.
NY State Library Databases
These databases may be accessed by NY State Employees. You will need to follow the instructions at the bottom of the page in order to apply for a "P" card if you do not already have one.
Opposing Viewpoints
Contains about 2000 viewpoint articles, 1000 topic overviews, 700 court case overviews, and 30 full text periodicals and newspapers. The Research Guide provides tips on analyzing issues with opposing viewpoints, distinguishing fact from opinion, evaluating information sources, and recognizing deceptive arguments.
Poem Finder (LitFinder)
Provides access to about 125,000 full text poems, 850,000 poem citations, 5,000 full text short stories, 3,000 full text essays, 2000 full text speeches, and 1,000 full text plays.
Primary Search (EBSCOhost)
Provides full text for nearly 70 popular magazines and over 100 children's pamphlets for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990.
Professional Development Collection
Full text of about 500 education journals (about 350 are peer-reviewed). Includes full text of the Chronicle of Higher Education from 1999 to the present (with a one month delay).
Project Muse
Full text of over 100 scholarly journals in fields including literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, political science, gender studies, and economics.
PsycArticles
Provides access to over 100,000 searchable full text articles from 48 journals published by the American Psychological Association from 1894 to the present.
PsycINFO
Covers 1887 to the present. Provides worldwide coverage to literature in psychology and related disciplines. Links to full text articles in other databases. SocINDEX is the world's most comprehensive and highest quality sociology research database. This index features more than 1,910,000 records with subject headings from a 19,300 term sociology-specific. This file also contains informative abstracts for more than 815 "core" coverage journals dating back to 1895.
