Request for Purchase of an Item

Departmental Purchase Requests

Each department has:

  • A budget for new materials, based on the allocations formula
  • This formula is approved by the College Library Committee each spring, and is composed of a base percentage shared equally by all departments (10%); each department’s FTEs (30%); number of courses taught (30%); and monograph use (30%)
  • A representative who serves on the College Library Committee
  • A liaison who handles the department’s budget, forwards orders to the Acquisitions Librarian, receives completed orders, etc.
  • A library bibliographer who provides an avenue for the faculty in the department to learn about library resources and services, and works  with the department to build a strong collection in the department’s curricular areas

How to order:

  • All orders have to go through your department’s liaison
  • The information we need: Format (book, DVD, etc.), Title, Author or Publisher, and Date (ISBN is also helpful; and the more information the better)

How to send the request:

  • Resources for College Libraries (available from the library’s webpage under “Databases by Name”) – an EXCELLENT tool for searching for just the right material; we also have unlimited remote access at http://rclweb.net/; requests can be saved as a list or emailed to the Acquisitions librarian
  • Email to heydukh@oneonta.edu (Microsoft Word attachment; copy & paste from Amazon;  OCLC records, etc.)
  • Order cards
  • Choice cards (just jot your initials and department in the center of the card)
  • Catalogs with items circled

When your request comes in:

  • The order card, with the call number, will be returned to your liaison; the item is shelved and available for checkout
  • If you need the material for a class or to be reserved, or would like to be contacted immediately when it is available, please note this in your request

Journals, standing orders (monographic serials) and electronic resources:

  • Managed by the library; any changes are made after extensive consultation with the faculty and bibliographers

Please contact the Acquisitions Librarian or your department bibliographer for further information, or if you have any questions, suggestions, etc.:
