Louis's robe is embroidered with the motif of a wolf in gold. In French wolf is loup. This is thus a play on Louis's name. The collar shown belongs to the Order of the Porcupine founded by Louis in 1394.

Christine presented this ms. to Philip the Bold between 20 March and 30 September 1403. The Duke of Burgundy gave Christine a silver-gilt goblet weighing 1,2333.45 grams for "a book" on 30 September. The plan of 6 grisaille miniatures closely parallels the program of BN fr. 1188 that was given to Jean de Berry.
