Sociology is the scientific study of human social organization. How people learn the
rules of their society, form complex organizations within their society, and
conform or deviate to the basic rules created by society are of interest to
Sociologists. Of special interest are the five major institutions of society:
family, education, religious, economic and political institutions. We also study
many of the social processes and interactions in society such as deviance,
collective behavior, aging, health and illness, self in society, ethnic
diversity and social change. You laugh, but when you talk about culture and how people subconsciously deal with hierarchy and where they fit within an organization and whether they feel comfortable in bringing things up, things like the shape of the table matter. Being trained as an engineer, I'm wishing I'd taken more sociology classes in college. ~ Wayne Hale, NASA
